I don't know how to describe what I felt in the first minutes after the centaur pair left; Like swimming in a hurricane, or walking in a sandstorm, then my oft cursed, and blessed, Elven discipline reasserted itself.
I began to consider the impossibilities of my assumptions, it had been twenty-five years since Sallan had first met this Hallon Sandasson, and the man had been at least thirty at the time.
Other than that, Lord Riax himself told me that others of his kind had taken Galeorhin away.
"Poor lost little girl, I can see you thinking like a mortal from here."
My internal confusion was rudely interrupted by that sarcastic comment.
"Lord Electis, what a delightful surprise, I see you're still talking like an Immortal."
"What a feisty little kitten you are, isn't that what you're dearly departed lover used to call you?"
"Obviously, having no physical form is a great hardship, if you must spy on others and only experience emotions second-hand."
"I may have no physical form, little kitten, but the power of my mind is a far greater compensation."
"I'd say you got the bad end of that deal, but please, do let's stop insulting each other - the sooner you leave the better!"
"What, you aren't at all curious as to why I should bother with a pathetic, mortal creature such as yourself?"
"Hygrr sthyd lyfd yt ghdyr!"
(Ogrish insult, translates as 'your mother was a human', but the literal meaning is much more insulting, and vulgar. - AL)
"Descending into profanity now are we, my dear?"
"I am not your 'dear' anything, Electis, tell me why you're here or leave."
"Such a harsh cold person, whatever did he see in you?" He sneered at me maliciously, "If my company is such a hardship, perhaps I will leave...I saw a couple of centaurs on my way here, very entertaining in the right circumstances."
At first his presence had just been irksome, but not truly threatening, now it was...I straightened up, not realising until then that I had backed away from him.
"If you go anywhere near my friends..."
As I spoke I summoned the power of Water to me, invisible but strong, it waited to be commanded by my will.
"...You will wish you had never set eyes upon this world."
Suddenly, he was no longer relaxed, indeed for a moment he seemed almost...fearful, though he covered it with bluster and strong words.
"You would dare threaten the Lord of Fire, and for the sake of two pathetic creatures who cannot expect to live more than a century?! ...I can see the pathetic little spell you're trying to conjure."
He had clearly only just noticed it, and he smirked when he did.
"You should know, it won't work; Lady Hyjora will not allow the magic of her domain to harm me!"
"Last chance to leave us all alone."
My confidence confused him, but he was too arrogant to believe I, a mere mortal female could harm him.
"Arrogant wench, to challenge a God..."
I could see an Aura of Fire forming around him, he fully intended to kill me at that moment, what he had forgotten was the fact that while he was absorbed in his preparations, I could complete my own.
I wasn't entirely sure that my idea would work, but the threat to my friends made it worth the risk.
