interlude

Sitting at the café across the street from the Koneko, the pair watched with amusement as girls swarmed the shop. The girls were quite clearly divided in groups depending on which of the employees they liked best. One group was looking quite disappointed, slowly browsing the selection hoping that Omi would show up. Their efforts were in vain, though, as Aya’s temper got the better of him and he snapped at the girls to get out unless they were buying something.

*For humans, they hunt well,* one of the watchers commented, making his companion burst out into laughter. Brown eyes shone with amusement as he continued, *Perhaps we should train them further.*

*They need the safety of a pack, without it they will cower in fear at the slightest hint of danger. If you want students, I suggest you look for them elsewhere.* Full lips curved into a teasing smile. *Maybe one of the kittens inside could become a wolf?*

*Perhaps we should find out if they are really kittens. And youth aside, the red one is as much an Arcerian as Kaelas.*

Eyes locked and held, something passing between the two that wasn’t quite telepathy, but read as loud and clear as spoken words.

“We shall see,” the second watcher said, turning now thoughtful eyes back to the flower shop.
