chapter 1

‘Shiva’s Lover.’

Seifer had been the first to call him that; one day in the cafeteria. Squall didn’t remember the circumstances – didn’t really care. But he’d wondered sometimes since then, if Seifer had ever realized just how accurate the nickname was. Or had Ifrit said something to the other man?

Either way, Squall reasoned, it was true. He really was Shiva’s Lover, though it went further than that. He belonged to Her, in every way that mattered. If She’d ever ask him to destroy Esthar or anywhere, he’d do it without a second thought.

Shiva didn’t like to share. She accepted Griever, but that was because Griever had been with him before She came. The other GFs deferred to Her when he’d had them Junctioned during the War – they knew just how possessive Shiva was of her lion. He knew Quetzalcoatl could be just as possessive of Zell, but it wasn’t like with Shiva.

He’d been twelve the first time he’d Junctioned Shiva, and he’d never unjunctioned Her since. She’d been in his head 24/7 for six years, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Squall! Squall!” Rinoa came running up from behind him, excited about something. He couldn’t care less. Shiva didn’t like Rinoa – at all. She’d put up with the Sorceress in his head for the duration of the fight against Ultimecia, but since they’d killed the bitch, Shiva had been adamant about getting Rinoa out of your head – soon. Squall just hoped he’d find someone who could take the Sorceress-Knight bond and like it.

“Squall! Guess what! Seifer’s back!! The Headmaster has him in his office with everyone else; we’re just waiting for you!” Squall had tuned back in to the girl’s chattering just in time it seemed.

“Hn.”

Wonderful. We can give him the little brat and be done with her. Then I can have you all to myself again. I’ve been getting lonely – we’ve not had any privacy for months.

You know I don’t like it any more than you do, Shiv. Good idea though, I’ll be glad to get rid of her. Squall blinked as he stepped into Cid’s office, where the rest of the Orphanage Gang was gathered. Seifer looked nervous, despite being backed by Fujin and Raijin.

“Almasy.”

“Leonheart.”

Irvine groaned from his seat. “Can we get on with it? Just forget the posturing for once and find out why the hell he’s here?”

Squall glared at the sniper before relenting. “Irvine has a point. Why are you here, Seifer?”

The blonde glanced down at the floor. “No place else to go. Besides, Garden is home to me. I am sorry about everything you realize that, right?”

“Hn. Fine. You’re forgiven. Headmaster, I think that his actions in the war prove him capable of SeeD rank, don’t you?” Squall continued without letting Cid respond. “Of course there is one more thing before we’re through.” A little help severing the link, please? I’m not sure if I can manage it alone.

Of course, My Lion. I’d love to.

“What would that be?”

So. Seifer was a little more wary now. Good. Squall raised a hand toward the blonde gunblade master and focused. He ignored it when Rinoa cried out and collapsed and finally dropped the Bond into Seifer’s mind.

“You’re Rinoa’s Knight now.” Squall turned to go when the outbreak of many people talking at once stopped him. He turned and glared at the room; Shiva forcing the temperature down about fifty degrees. When Squall spoke again his breath came in icy puffs.

“I will not be a Sorceress’ Knight any longer than necessary. I’m simply not cut out for it. Besides, Shiva doesn’t share.” Squall smirked at Seifer. “You were right you know, Seifer? I really am Shiva’s Lover. And I like it that way. Now, if you all don’t mind,” he glanced around at the various shocked and stunned looks on his friends faces. “I think we’re done here.”

That was fun don’t you agree?

Definitely, Pet, most amusing. Let’s go back to your rooms, hm? It’s about time we had some fun.

Hmph. Just don’t be to loud. I don’t care to be forced to listen in again.

Prude.
